Wallpapers of the Month – Space

For this month’s backgrounds & wallpapers I hopped into my archives to find some old gems. I’m definitely not an expert in astrophotography, nor do I have all the proper gear for the best results, but I’ve been to a few remote places over the years that have provided really really dark skies. The photo featuring only the Milky Way was taken in a remote mountain range in New Zealand a few years ago – those were probably the darkest and remote skies I’ve ever seen. The photo with the lake and the mountains is in the Chilean Andes (Portillo). That was probably the best hotel balcony view I’ve ever had. I never really ventured around much since I could just snap those photos from our porch. That specific photo was taken the night before the recent 8.3 earthquake that hit the area! The camping photo was taken right in my back yard in Lake Tahoe. There’s a campsite that’s at a mountain top just 10 miles from Tahoe City near the Pacific Crest Trail. It’s a great remote spot that overlooks Desolation Wilderness. Lastly, the moon photo was just taken right outside my house with my roommate’s old telescope with my 5D attached to an EF mount on it.
