It’s been 11 years since the original GoPro HD HERO launched (October 2009). I used this camera religiously when it first came out on the USC Ski & Snowboard team for the early days of my YouTube channel. I first shot with this camera before it released when I filmed and edited the Original HD Ski Movie for GoPro almost a year before I started working with GoPro full time! I knew a lot less about video editing back then, and it was actually my first time working with “HD footage”. We mostly shot with 720P-60, but I remember it being the most CRYSTAL CLEAR footage I had ever seen in my life. I literally thought it looked like real life. Fast forward 11 years and HERO9 makes it look like it was shot with a potato and a retro filter!
I haven’t used the HD HERO since the HERO2 released, so I thought it would be fun to see how far we’ve come in the past 11 years. In the video I do a direct side-by-side comparison of the HERO9 to the HD HERO in a plethora of modes to show the differences. Make sure you watch in 4K on a large screen to get the full effect! Thank you to Zadia for being my snowboard subject!
